Jamie Redknapp has told Sky Sports that he thinks Newcastle United new-boy Alexander Isak will absolutely love playing with Allan Saint-Maximin.

Isak completed his switch from Real Sociedad this week for a club-record fee of £63 million (Sky Sports).

The 22-year-old didn’t feature against Wolves today, with the Athletic reporting that his work permit did not arrive in time.

But when the Swedish international does make his first appearance for Newcaslte this season, Redknapp feels he will love playing alongside Saint-Maximin.

Isak will love playing with Saint-Maximin

The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder praised the French winger for his display against Manchester City last week.

Saint-Maximin provided two assists on the day and won the free-kick for Trippier’s goal.

And Redknapp told Sky Sports before the game against Wolves today that Isak will love to receive this kind of supply at Newcastle.

He said: “Unplayable when he’s [Saint-Maximin] on his day, he really is. Towards the end of last season, he was in and out of the team and Eddie Howe, I had that feeling he wasn’t quite sure of him.

“But with performances like last week, you have to play him, you have to let him go. When he gets into the box and takes people on, you can’t stop him. And this is against an incredible right-back in Kyle Walker as well.

“I think backing off [Saint-Maximin] isn’t always the best thing, get out to him as fast as you can. Once he gets into those areas, he’s brilliant. You’ve got to have end product, you’ve got to make goals and that’s always been the one thing.

“How many assists does he get? How many goals does he get? Because with his ability he should be scoring or at least making chances for players. Especially now they’re getting more personnel in. Isak will look at this and think ‘I’d love some of this supply line’.”

Despite an underwhelming season in La Liga during the last campaign, Isak is seen as one of the most promising young strikers in Europe.

Howe will be delighted to have secured such a big signing to bolster his frontline this summer. Especially after missing out on other targets such as Hugo Ekitike.

Isak boasts blistering pace and could provide a real threat alongside Saint-Maximin this season. The French winger rescued a point for Howe’s men today with an excellent long-range volley.
