Report: Agents offer 'superb' Tottenham player to Barcelona, just 11 days after Conte said he needs to improve
Spanish journalist Gerard Romero revealed last night that agents of Tottenham Hotspur star Sergio Reguilon have offered the left-back to Barcelona.
Reguilon joined Spurs from Real Madrid for £32 million in the summer of 2020 (Sky Sports). He has had his ups and downs in North London over the last 20 months, but Tottenham fans will agree that he’s a fine player.
Labelled as ‘superb’ by Graham Roberts, Reguilon has played 64 times for Tottenham so far. He’s a regular under Antonio Conte too now, but things could change really soon.
Romero believes that the Spanish left-back could head back to his home country this summer.
Agents have offered Sergio Reguilon to Barcelona
Romero revealed on his Twitch stream last night that Reguilon’s agents have offered the defender’s services to Xavi Hernandez’s Barcelona.
The Catalans currently have Jordi Alba and he is among the best left-backs in the world. However, the Spaniard will turn 33 in three days’ time, and it’s important for Barca to find his successor.
Reguilon’s representatives, Sports Invest UK, an agency owned by super-agent Kia Joorabchian, have reportedly started working on a deal that would see the 25-year-old secure a big move to the Camp Nou in the summer.
However, Real Madrid still have a buy-back clause for Reguilon which would complicate any deal with Barcelona.
Conte wants the Spaniard to improve
Just 11 days ago, after Tottenham battered Everton at home, Conte was quizzed about Reguilon, who scored just a few moments after coming on as a substitute.
The Italian was happy about the left-back’s performance against a poor Everton side, but he stressed that Reguilon has a lot to improve.
He said, as per Football London: “I was happy for Sergio Reguilon because after Covid he came in and scored. He’s another player who has a lot of space for improvement and my expectation that he improves his level.”
It will be interesting to see if Reguilon will remain a Spurs player beyond the end of this season.
