Report: 26-year-old agrees to halve his pay in order to secure Arsenal exit
A report from Italian outlet TMW claims Hector Bellerin has agreed to take a massive pay cut to leave Arsenal for Betis – almost halving his wages.
Bellerin, 26, is set to join La Liga side Real Betis initially on loan, but with a permanent deal also included. He is undergoing a medical as things stand.
But what is surprising is that the Spain international has agreed wages of £3million per season – which works at around £58,000 a week.
It is a big move from Bellerin, following in similar footsteps to Willian. The Brazilian opted to rip up two years of his Arsenal deal, worth £20million.
That is, just to get out of the club. Bellerin has done the same, with Spotrac reporting that his current Arsenal contract is worth £110,000 a week.
Bellerin to Betis: Pay cut shows players desperate to leave Arsenal
Bellerin leaves Arsenal as one of the club’s most senior players, clocking up 239 at senior level for the Gunners. But now, he is on his way out.
It is a mess at Arsenal. If the last few days show anything, it is that players are not happy at The Emirates and are desperate to get out of the club.
The Mail claim that Bellerin is one of three players to be in talks to leave Arsenal along with Mo Elneny and Reiss Nelson on deadline day.
For Willian to rip up his contract, for Ainsley Maitland-Niles to post on Instagram, for Bellerin to take a pay cut – it shows players want out.
