The Times has shed further light on the leadership group that exists amongst the Arsenal squad, confirming that Kieran Tierney is one of the players involved.
The spotlight is now on that particular group at the Emirates. Mikel Arteta is now looking for a new captain after it was announced on Tuesday that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has had the armband taken off of him.

Questions are now being asked about Aubameyang’s future. But the Gunners fans are just as intrigued to see who Arteta turns to to replace the striker.
The Spaniard noted that Alexandre Lacazette and Granit Xhaka are in the leadership group. Lacazette captained the side in their win over Southampton, while Xhaka was previously skipper.

But The Times has disclosed another name within the group. And that is Tierney.
Without injury, Tierney would be overwhelming favourite to become Arsenal captain
To many, Tierney’s presence in the leadership group will come as absolutely no surprise. The 24-year-old has been an outstanding signing for Arsenal. And there have been plenty of occasions in the past when supporters have insisted that he is a future captain of the club.
He is definitely a name that will be considered now that the post is vacant. And in truth, if it was not for injury and some of the impressive performances of Nuno Tavares, he would surely be an overwhelming favourite.
Tierney is now back in the side ahead of Tavares. And he is also a player who will not be overawed should he get the armband.
Arsenal have so many young or inexperienced players. Tierney’s consistency throughout his career has been remarkable. And with that, there is little reason to think that he would not thrive if given the captaincy.
