Intermediaries have floated the idea of swapping Ousmane Dembele with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with Barcelona interested in signing the Arsenal striker, according to a report from The Independent.

A very large question mark now lingers over Aubameyang at the Emirates. It was announced on Tuesday that the 32-year-old has been stripped of the captaincy after a breach of discipline last week.

Obviously, with the January transfer window just around the corner, some may be anticipating that Aubameyang could be on the move before too long.

He is attracting interest. The Independent reports that Barca are considering a move for the Gabon international.

There is a potential problem for the La Liga giants. The report notes that Aubameyang – who earns up to £250,000-a-week – is not prepared to take a pay-cut to leave the Emirates.

But it does appear that those looking at a deal have found a way to potentially engineer a way around that stumbling block.

The Independent reports that Barca are looking to offload Dembele before his contract runs out. The Frenchman is currently set to be a free agent in the summer.

Dembele is on £200,000-a-week at the Nou Camp. And it has been suggested by The Independent that intermediaries have looked at the possibility of a swap deal.

Swapping Aubameyang with Dembele will divide Arsenal fans

It remains to be seen how Aubameyang moves forward from here. It may well be that he returns to the fold in the weeks to come. And if he returns to form, he could still have plenty to offer.

However, if he is done at the Emirates, offloading him makes sense. And if Barcelona are prepared to take him, Arsenal should be open to talks.

Dembele has not had the best time at Barcelona. And Arsenal will be wary of taking on another big contract.

He scored or assisted 32 goals in 50 games for Borussia Dortmund however. And at 24, he has plenty of time to get his career back on track.

Some Arsenal fans will welcome a swap involving Dembele and Aubameyang. But there may well be plenty who warn the Gunners over such a deal.
