Premier League appoint referee for Aston Villa vs Wolves who was told he made an ‘incredible’ mistake in his last game

Aston Villa and Wolves find themselves at opposite ends of the table right now after four games of the new Premier League season.

Unai Emery‘s side secured back-to-back wins as they left it late to come from behind against Everton, thanks to a wonderful goal from Jhon Duran.

Aston Villa now find themselves fifth in the table, just outside of the Champions League places on goal difference.

Wolves are still yet to get their first win of the new season after suffering yet another defeat at the hands of Newcastle last time out.

It’s not about to get any easier either, with games against Aston Villa, Liverpool, Brentford and Manchester City to come.

Next up for these two sides is a West Midlands derby at Villa Park, and the referee who has been picked for the clash is an interesting one…

Tim Robinson appointed as the referee for Aston Villa vs Wolves

Both Wolves and Aston Villa have been relying on Colombian players in recent times, with Duran scoring goals for the Villans and Yerson Mosquera continuing to impress at centre-back.

According to the Premier League, Tim Robinson has been appointed as the referee for Aston Villa vs Wolves.

His assistants will be Tim Wood and Steve Meredith. The fourth official is Tom Nield, with Paul Tierney on VAR with his assistant Neil Davies.

Robinson was in the media after his last refereeing performance, which isn’t a good sign.

Marco Silva labelled his decision not to award Fulham a penalty after Max Kilman appeared to bring down Adama Traore as ‘incredible’ (as per Independent) and ended up being booked for his protestations.

Robinson has refereed twice in the Premier League so far this season and has brandished nine yellow cards.

As we know, Wolves have had a number of issues relating to VAR and referees over the past couple of seasons, so this certainly won’t fill them with any hope.

Last season in the Premier League, Aston Villa actually ended up being +4 for decisions that had gone for or against them thanks to VAR, so they’ll be hoping for more of the same.

Tim Robinson’s refereeing stats involving Wolves and Aston Villa

Tim Robinson has refereed Aston Villa 11 times in his career. They’ve won just four, drawn two, and lost five of those games.

Aston Villa are unbeaten in the last five games Robinson has been involved in, though he has only refereed them once in the Premier League.

Wolves have a brilliant record in games refereed by Robinson, with eight wins, two draws and two losses from 12 games.

He was the referee responsible for giving Wolves a penalty against Chelsea during their 4-2 win at Stamford Bridge last season.
