Report: Graham Potter green-lights signing of 'amazing' player in major blow to Tottenham and Arsenal
Chelsea manager Graham Potter has apparently given the green light for Chelsea to go and sign the impressive defender, Josko Gvardiol.
90Min reports today how the new Blues manager has given his blessing to the club to go out and sign the Croatian star, who has been in fine form for RB Leipzig over the course of the last few seasons.
Gvardiol, of course, is no new name when it comes to clubs in England. Both Tottenham and Arsenal are known to have held an interest in him this summer, while Chelsea were already said to have offered Timo Werner in exchange for the defender prior to the window closing.
Dubbed as being an ‘amazing‘ talent by those who know him best, Gvardiol is seen as one of the top young defenders in Europe among the top clubs’ scouting systems. Valued at around the £80m mark, there is an acceptance that Leipzig will make quite the huge sum on Gvardiol when they do sell.
Under Todd Boehly, Chelsea have shown they’ll spend. The Blues splashed out on the likes of Raheem Sterling and Wesley Fofana this summer, while they also spent big on Kalidou Koulibaly.
TBR’s View: Gvardiol Would Complete Chelsea
There won’t be many better back threes in Europe than Fofana, Gvardiol and Koulibaly if Chelsea can pull this off, and that’s without mentioning the ever-brilliant Thiago Silva as well.
Gvardiol has long be admired by many European clubs and it seems to be just a matter of time before he gets that big move away from Leipzig.
Chelsea would be a club for him to really take a lead role and with Silva running out of years to keep playing at the very top, he might see it as a chance to really lay a marker down at the Bridge.
