According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have tried to offer Timo Werner to RB Leipzig in a swap deal to bring Josko Gvardiol to Stamford Bridge.

Gvardiol is seen as one of the best young defenders in Europe at the moment and has been targeted by a number of clubs in the Premier League already. Tottenham were thought to be keen on signing him when there was talk of Alessandro Bastoni joining, while Arsenal have also expressed an interest in the Leipzig ace.

However, with neither North London club able to do a deal, Romano claims Chelsea have offered up Werner in an attempt to get Gvardiol to move to the club. Taking to his Twitter account just now, the transfer guru explains that Leipzig are holding firm, despite Chelsea’s attempts.

Lauded by Leeds manager Jesse Marsch as an ‘amazing‘ talent, Gvardiol has likely emerged on Chelsea’s list due to missing out on other targets. Jules Kounde signed for Barcelona this week, while Nathan Ake has remained in Manchester for the time being.

Of course, the Blues have signed Kalidou Koulibaly. But Thomas Tuchel is wanting more new faces, with Gvardiol likely to be someone they pursue for the rest of the window.

TBR’s View: Gvardiol Destined For England

There has been so much talk of the Croatian moving to England that it seems almost inevitable that he will make the move eventually. And in fairness, all the clubs linked – Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal – would suit him.

Of course, Leipzig want huge money for their man and it’s going to take some big effort from any willing buyer to prize him away.

But given Gvardiol’s age and potential, as well his current ability, you’d have to say that paying a huge fee would be worth it in time for all the clubs mentioned here.
