Piers Morgan tells Mikel Arteta to ‘stop being so stubborn’ and sign rival Premier League player

Piers Morgan has urged Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta to take his chequebook out and sign Ivan Toney from Brentford.

We’re 19 days into the January transfer window, and Arsenal aren’t close to signing anyone. That seems to have annoyed Morgan, who is desperate to see the Gunners sign a new striker this month. He wants Toney at the Emirates.

Piers Morgan urges Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta to sign Ivan Toney

Arsenal have been linked with a move to sign Ivan Toney for months now.

The Englishman, 27, has served his ban and is eligible to play again for Brentford. He has announced that he is free and is expected to feature against Nottingham Forest this weekend.

Toney has also publicly claimed that he would love to play for a big club one day (Sky Sports).

Piers Morgan seems to see that as Toney ‘begging’ for a move away, and he has now urged Mikel Arteta to ‘stop being so stubborn’ and to go and sign the Brentford striker.

The outspoken journalist tweeted: “The January transfer window closes in 14 days but Arsenal still haven’t signed a striker despite proven goalscorers like @ivantoney24 almost begging to go to a big club.

“What are you waiting for @m8arteta? Stop being so stubborn about your ‘process’ & get your chequebook out.”

Toney to Arsenal is extremely unlikely this month

It’s easy to tell a manager to open his chequebook and sign a player who’ll cost a fortune, but the real world works slightly differently.

Arsenal had to convince Brentford to turn the David Raya deal into a loan move just so that they would be on the right side of Financial Fair Play regulations.

That tells us that they just can’t spend big money in this window unless they can secure a significant sale.

So, even if Mikel Arteta wanted to sign Toney, a deal this month is not feasible, and the fact that nobody is about to leave Arsenal for big money means a move for the Brentford star is extremely unlikely.

A move in the summer, however, is far more realistic.
