Arsenal and Chelsea target Ivan Toney has served his ban and is now finally allowed to be back on the pitch for Brentford.

The Englishman hasn’t played a game since May last year, but he has constantly been in the news. His future has been at the centre of many conversations, with Arsenal and Chelsea both linked with a move to sign him.

Ivan Toney says he’s ‘free’ after his ban finally ends

Brentford star Ivan Toney was handed an eight-month ban from all football activities back in May last year for breaching the FA’s betting rules.

The Englishman had an amazing campaign for the Bees last season. He scored 21 goals and provided five assists in all competitions and made a name for himself as one of the best strikers in the division.

Toney hasn’t kicked a ball over the last eight months, but his stock is still very high. Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move to sign him this month, while Chelsea are also said to be interested.

Irrespective of what happens with his future, today is a day for celebration for Toney – he has served his ban and is now permitted to be back in action for Brentford.

The Bees take on Nottingham Forest this Saturday, and Toney is eligible to play.

Taking to X to announce his return, the England striker posted a GIF of a man screaming one word: “Free!”

Toney says he’s staying at Brentford

Brentford have been adamant from the start that they have no interest in letting Toney leave.

Multiple reports over the last few months have suggested that the Englishman would be open to a move to Arsenal and that the Gunners are keen to sign him too.

However, in a video posted by Brentford’s handle on X this week, Toney appeared to confirm that he will be staying while speaking to Pontus Jansson.

“I’m staying, I’m staying,” Toney told Jansson. “I can’t wait to get back.”
