Tottenham Hotspur signed Brennan Johnson last summer, but before that happened, he was offered to Manchester United.
The Welsh attacker’s old club, Nottingham Forest, have been hit with a four-point deduction for breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules. That could’ve been avoided had they sold Johnson for a bigger fee than what Tottenham paid to get him.

Brennan Johnson was offered to Manchester United before Tottenham move
Nottingham Forest needed to make a big sale last summer to be on the right side of FFP and PSR.
Brennan Johnson was arguably their most valuable asset, and he was linked with a move away from the City Ground since the start of last summer’s transfer window.
Nottingham Forest were open to selling him and The Athletic claim that they even received an offer from Atletico Madrid worth £42.9 million. The Reds, however, turned that down and demanded £55.8 million.
After that transfer failed to materialise, Ross Wilson, Forest’s chief football officer, spoke to a number of English clubs to offer Johnson’s services to them.
Among those clubs were Manchester United, who could’ve signed the ‘phenomenal‘ attacker if they wanted to, but they showed no interest at the time.
In the end, on transfer deadline day, Tottenham sealed the deal to sign Johnson in a £47.5 million deal (Sky Sports).

Brennan Johnson has had his ups and downs at Tottenham
There was a lot of excitement when Tottenham signed Brennan Johnson last summer, but many questioned if he was worth the big bucks as well.
Johnson had a difficult start to life at Spurs. He showed flashes of brilliance, but he managed just one goal in the Premier League for Tottenham in the first half of the season.
Since the end of January, the 22-year-old has scored three goals and provided two assists. He was even hailed as ‘excellent’ by Alan Shearer not too long ago. However, against Fulham last weekend, Johnson, like most other teammates, was miles off it.
Johnson has a lot of potential and could still develop into a top player in the coming years. However, as things stand, we’re sure Manchester United aren’t regretting missing out on him.
