Jamie O’Hara says 22-year-old Tottenham player was ‘miles off it’ against Fulham

Jamie O’Hara has issued his verdict on the performance of Brennan Johnson as Tottenham Hotspur suffered a hugely disappointing loss at the hands of Fulham on Saturday.

Ange Postecoglou’s side passed up the opportunity to move into the top four in the Premier League. Of course, Spurs went into their trip at Craven Cottage off the back of an outstanding 4-0 win at Aston Villa last week.

One of the players who has been really impressive in recent weeks has been Brennan Johnson. The Wales international initially made a quiet start to life in North London, not entirely helped by the fee which brought him to the club. He was also the only attacking player signed last summer after Harry Kane had been sold.

But Johnson had appeared to turn a corner more recently. And the 22-year-old was having a greater impact on games, scoring three goals and contributing two assists in his previous six.

He should have had an assist for Timo Werner on Saturday. But apart from that, it was a tough day for the wide-man against the Cottagers.

And speaking on talkSPORT, Jamie O’Hara could not hide his disappointment with his former side.

“We’ve got to be better. We can’t go batter Aston Villa like we’ve done, put in a performance, best performance of the season, and then, be like, right that’s it, we’re going to go for the top-four. That’s a massive game against Fulham. I know we’re talking about the coefficient points, we might get fifth, and you might only have to finish fifth to get into the Champions League. But it’s not guaranteed,” he said.

“Six points behind, Manchester United, they’re still in the hunt, they’re still in the race. So you have to get these results, you have to go there and make it tough. And we were miles off it. Some players just not good enough, Brennan Johnson, not good enough today, just giving away too many chances.”

Spurs stars will be desperate to make amends as soon as possible

In fairness to Johnson, if O’Hara had not been cut off, it would not have been a surprise to hear him reel off a list of several players who were poor yesterday.

Tottenham fans have had some harsh reminders that they remain a work in progress. But Saturday probably felt like the biggest blow after such a brilliant display against Villa.

The good news is players such as Johnson have the potential to be so much better. And they will be desperate to show that at the earliest opportunity.
