'Pay the whole Ings budget': Some Southampton fans react to links with £80k-a-week marksman
Southampton fans have called on the club to push the boat out for Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham this summer.
Southampton need to replace Danny Ings, who joined Aston Villa on Wednesday for up to a reported £30million.
The 29-year-old was crucial for Saints, so they need to aim for a striker of the same calibre or better.
However, the Evening Standard notes that Southampton may have one issue as things stand.
They’re apparently more interested in a loan deal than a permanent move, while Chelsea would rather sell Abraham outright.
Arsenal and West Ham are reportedly keen on a permanent deal.
However, neither are keen to meet Chelsea’s initial valuation of £40million, added the report.
It looks as though Southampton need to decide whether to really go big in terms of replacing Ings.
Jack Grealish described Abraham as “unbelievable” and said he “loved playing with him”, which clearly shows how much quality he has.
Some Saints fans reckon they definitely should do all they can to land the £80,000-a-week England international.
Here’s what some Southampton supporters have been saying on Twitter:
Tammy Abraham Would be an amazing replacement for Ings but I just cannot see Southampton buying a player who will probably cost £40 million, even though we clearly have the money to do it. We’ll probably end up with some 5 goal a season league 1 striker #SaintsFC #Ings— Jim (@centristjim1) August 5, 2021
Abraham on Loan should be top of our list. Can score goals at the top level, still young, always rated him. Get him in. #SaintsFC— Joe (@sfcJoe_) August 5, 2021
Think that’d be a good move for Saints. Should do it on the same basis as Walcott deal. He has lots of talent but for no fault of his own Tuchel doesn’t fancy him. Put him in our side where there’s not as much pressure he’d do well I feel .— Paul Cox (@metalsaint65) August 5, 2021
If we could get him for £30m I’d just pay it.— Billybobbobob (@Billybobbobob1) August 5, 2021
honestly just get him on a perm and make him out highest paid player ever he’s so worth it he scores goals everywhere he goes— tom (@sfctom_) August 5, 2021
I would pay the whole Ings budget on him, proven prem goalscorer and still young .— Josh #GaoOut (@saints_josh2) August 5, 2021
Can’t see it happening, but I’d rip your hand off for Tammy Abraham.— Jack (@StrangerIngsy) August 5, 2021
Be hell of a scoop if we could pull it off, and would finally give us an Ariel Presence up top again.
Lads always scored goals when he’s played, and is still young.#SaintsFC
