Paul Scholes names the one former Man Utd player he wishes was in this current team

Paul Scholes and other Manchester United legends must be pained at the sight of their former club nowadays.

Ruben Amorim led the Red Devils to 15th in the Premier League last term in what was an abysmal campaign, and only has his side sitting eighth after seven games of the current season.

Manchester United could therefore use several stars of days gone by – such as Wayne Rooney and David Beckham – but Paul Scholes has picked Ryan Giggs as the one former player most needed at Old Trafford right now.

Paul Scholes feels Manchester United need an entertainer

When asked by FourFourTwo which player from his generation would be first to go into the current Manchester United team, the 50-year-old said: β€œI’d go for Ryan Giggs.

β€œI think Man United at this moment in time are lacking a bit of entertainment.

β€œRyan Giggs lifted people, lifted the crowd and lifted the players around him.”

The Welshman made 963 appearances for Manchester United – who like Oliver Glasner – scoring 168 goals and providing 268 assists, so he would certainly be a useful player for Amorim to have in his current side.

However, we strongly disagree with Scholes – who Edwin van der Sar admires – that Giggs is the one most needed.

Manchester United actually need another Roy Keane

Entertaining players need a strong defensive foundation to enable them to get people off their seats, or else any flicks and tricks would be more likely to infuriate fans.

That comes from the back and from somebody who sets the standards, like Roy Keane used to do during his time marshalling the midfield at Manchester United from 1993 to 2005.

Much has been made about Amorim – and rightly so – but the Red Devils lack managers on the pitch too, players who can orchestrate and influence proceedings with their leadership skills by ensuring everybody knows their job.

At the moment, it all seems too chaotic on the field, and as a result, even an entertainer such as Giggs might have struggled to showcase his best skills were he playing the game today.
