Edwin van der Sar played with various players during his time at Manchester United, and now he’s revealed who he believes to be the “most underrated.”
The former Man United goalkeeper shared the pitch with countless legends, such as Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney, and Rio Ferdinand, but he also played with some lesser-known stars.
Not everyone is able to get the spotlight when playing at the Theatre of Dreams, and that led to some players going under the radar at times.
However, Van der Sar’s selection for his most underrated teammate at Man United is sure to surprise some people.

Edwin van der Sar names Paul Scholes as his “most underrated” former teammate at Manchester United
Out of all the players Van der Sar shared the pitch with at Old Trafford, he picked Paul Scholes as the most underrated when speaking to SBC Events.
Scholes is considered to be a Man United legend, and one of the greatest midfielders in Premier League history. However, his former teammate believes he could have been an even bigger star.
“I would say Paul Scholes. Not that he is underrated, his quality was immense. But he could have been a much bigger player if the press and everything would have made him a better player.
“But for us, at United, he was immense.”

| All competitions | 716 | 155 | 82 | 145 | 9 | 51,837′ |
While Scholes is a regular pundit nowadays, during his career he was famously rather reserved and quiet, often letting his football do the talking for him.
However, that quietness often meant that other players were given more limelight in the media, which is where Van der Sar’s comments come from.
Manchester United’s current squad would benefit from Paul Scholes
Throughout Scholes’ career he proved himself as an attacking midfielder and someone who can play defensively to break down play.
He’s the exact type of player that Ruben Amorim’s current midfield would benefit from, as the Red Devils are currently struggling in that area of the pitch.
Bruno Fernandes was slated by fans for his performance in Man United’s 3-1 loss against Brentford. Scholes himself has claimed Fernandes looks bored in his current role, being equally unimpressed by him this season.
Meanwhile, Manuel Ugarte also struggled against the Bees as he was replaced in the second half, with Amorim desperately lacking someone like Scholes in the middle of the park.
Rio Ferdinand has previously claimed Michael Carrick would control the play better than Ugarte, even at this stage in his life, which is something a prime Scholes would certainly be able to do.
