Manchester United are known to be admirers of Oliver Glasner as they weigh up Ruben Amorim’s uncertain future.
United’s dismal 3-1 defeat against Brentford last weekend raised further questions around Amorim’s position and continued his torrid record since taking charge.
While sources have continued to stress they are fully behind the head coach, the club’s hierarchy are understood to have drawn up a list of potential replacements.
Gareth Southgate was contacted by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, while Crystal Palace boss Glasner and Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola are also on United’s shortlist.
However, Glasner should become their No 1 target in the event of a change.

Oliver Glasner’s comments make him perfect fit for Man United
Having led Palace to FA Cup glory last season, and also won the Community Shield in this year’s curtain-raiser, Oliver Glasner is understandably a man in demand.
While he has favoured a 3-4-3 formation at Selhurst Park, similar to Amorim’s preferred shape at United, he has demonstrated impressive flexibility during games.
Far from a one-trick pony, Glasner has proven himself capable of quickly switching up his approach when something isn’t working, and he hasn’t been afraid of making big team selection decisions.
He masterminded Palace’s 2-0 victory at Old Trafford in February, and all of the hallmarks of his style were on show for Jean-Philippe Mateta’s second goal, which came at the end of a breathtaking move.
“The second goal is everything we are always talking about,” Glasner said post-match.
“I am delighted that it started with Adam Wharton playing a great one‑touch pass. Really great to watch, big win and we stay humble and keep going.”
At their best, Palace are quick and incisive with the ball, able to move from back to front in a matter of seconds. United, contrastingly, are painfully ponderous under Amorim, with few signs of improvement.
Glasner has also publicly revealed that his favourite formation is 4-4-2. This was the shape used to devastating effect by Sir Alex Ferguson during his glory years, knowing that the very history of United has been built on wingers capable of taking on the full-back.
A return to that approach would certainly breathe new life into a club drifting dangerously.
As reported by TBR Football, Glasner is open to staying at Palace provided they can match his demands, so it is crucial that United make their sales pitch as soon as possible.

Oliver Glasner would get the best out of Bruno Fernandes
It has been a rollercoaster start to the new season for Bruno Fernandes. At times, he has single-handedly dragged United through difficult spells in matches, while in others he has let his team-mates down.
Indeed, there has been too much finger-pointing when he himself has been guilty of letting runners go, although this is an issue that stems from Amorim’s insistence on playing him in the double pivot.
Fernandes can do a job there, keeping United ticking over and looking for arching switches out to the wing-backs, but he is simply too far away from goal to have a real impact.
The captain is not switched on defensively, either, and that has allowed opposition managers to pack the midfield and overrun him. Should Glasner arrive, these issues would likely be stopped in days.
Fernandes would either be moved into a wider position or played as the No 10 in a shift to a back four, where he has managed to score 100 goals and pick up 86 assists since joining.
This is the very first change Amorim or the next United head coach should make. Fernandes can produce magic when he is allowed to drop into the right areas, and he could still be crucial for many years to come.
