Paul Merson names Chelsea star who hasn’t ‘done enough’ under Enzo Maresca

Paul Merson has questioned one of Chelsea’s star signings, who he believes hasn’t done enough since joining the club.

The Blues are preparing for a crucial Premier League fixture against Manchester United on Saturday, in which both teams will be looking to showcase themselves.

Enzo Maresca’s men have not won in their previous two matches in all competitions. A draw against Brentford was followed by a loss to Bayern Munich.

However, Merson believes that one member of Chelsea’s expensive squad needs to step up and provide more for the team than he has done.

Paul Merson questions Pedro Neto in a Chelsea shirt

Chelsea signed Pedro Neto for £51.3million in 2024, and since then, Maresca has consistently used him on both the left and right wings.

However, during his SportsKeeda match preview for Chelsea’s game against Manchester United, Merson admitted he’s one player who needs to do more.

“With Liam Delap out injured, how should Chelsea line-up to get the best out of their attack? I think Joao Pedro up front and Palmer in behind is a given. But who else do they play?

“I don’t think Pedro Neto has done enough for Chelsea, and Jamie Gittens looks a bit lost! They must play Estevao, let him off the leash.

“He has already proved that he can play at this level, and he will enjoy a lot of space in this game. So I’d go Neto, Palmer, and Estevao behind Pedro. But I doubt Maresca will do the same! He may opt to go safe instead.

“What the Chelsea coach must understand is that they have the better squad and can rip Manchester United into shreds if they play their best team.”

Pedro Neto has competition in Estevao Willian

Neto typically prefers to play on the right wing, but the emergence of Estevao Willian at Stamford Bridge means he now has competition in that position.

The teenager has impressed so far at Chelsea, and Joao Pedro believes Estevao can be one of the world’s best if he continues in this form.

However, Maresca has continued to showcase that he trusts Neto, as the former Wolves winger has started all four of Chelsea’s Premier League games this season.

Neto has played two games on the left wing and two on the right, and has already opened his account for the season by scoring against West Ham.
