Tottenham Hotspur youngster Pape Matar Sarr has been raving about his relationship with teammate Yves Bissouma.

Sarr was speaking to The Athletic ahead of the start of the Premier League season.

After two years of being on the periphery at Tottenham, Pape Matar Sarr will be hoping this is his breakout campaign in England.

He spent a year on loan at Metz – where Spurs initially signed him for £14.5m – and regularly played for the French side.

Antonio Conte refused to loan Sarr out last season but he barely played, having to wait months to make his debut for the club.

However, he put in a phenomenal performance against AC Milan in the Champions League that announced his arrival to Tottenham fans.

Sarr has featured regularly in pre-season under new manager Ange Postecoglou.

He looked perfectly placed to play as one of Postecoglou’s two number-eights in midfield.

Sarr could play alongside Yves Bissouma in midfield, which would be a delight for the Tottenham youngster.

The pair are very close, with the £25m Mali international taking Sarr under his wing within the squad.

Sarr loves Bissouma relationship at Tottenham

Asked about his arrival at Tottenham and the 26-year-old midfielder, Sarr said: “It was not so easy at the start but he gave and still gives me lots of advice both on and off the pitch.

“I am close to [Yves] Bissouma, he’s my big brother. We have a special relationship.

“Having him there to guide me was very helpful. We talked a lot and I was alone in my own place at the beginning, so he invited me over and we’d spend afternoons together around at his place.

“He’d talk to me a lot and helped me through those initial stages. We would spend the daytimes together and I owe him a debt of gratitude for that.

“He gave me lots of advice about life in England in general and the training regime and what to expect. It was quite hard for me coming to London from France with the changes, like the weather.

“Everything changed for me. He helped me with how to live well in London, where to go and how to be a citizen in England. He was a great help to me.”

Sarr and Bissouma would be a brilliant combination in Tottenham’s midfield alongside new signing James Maddison.

The youngster is industrious, comfortable in possession and capable of scoring from long range.

He’s been backed to breakthrough this season which would be especially impressive given the midfield options at Postecoglou’s disposal right now.
