'On the way': 26-year-old is about to leave Tottenham Hotspur on straight loan, no option to buy - journalist
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso could be about to leave the club on a straight loan deal with no buy option, according to journalist Matteo Moretto.
Reports have suggested that Lo Celso was nearing a move back to Villarreal on loan but Spurs fans may have been hoping that the La Liga club would include an option to buy the 26-year-old permanently at the end of the season.
But instead, it looks like the Argentine could once again spend a season at the Yellow Submarine then return to North London next summer.
Lo Celso spent the second half of last season at the Spanish club and played brilliantly under Unai Emery.
The Spurs man was key in the club’s Champions League run to the semi-final and he could be heading back to Spain soon.
Lo Celso to leave Tottenham on straight loan
The deal is progressing and the Argentina international could be set to rejoin Emery’s men in the near future.
Lo Celso is apparently keen on the idea of joining Napoli or Lazio but it seems his main preference is to return to La Liga.
The Argentina international has found himself frozen out of Antonio Conte’s squad at Spurs as he is yet to feature in any matchday squads since returning from Villarreal.
The player clearly doesn’t feature in Conte’s plans for the future and the Italian would have probably preferred him to leave on a permanent basis.
But for the time being, it looks like Villarreal are pushing for a straight loan deal and Lo Celso could once again return to Hotspur Way next summer.
