‘New contacts’: Club now expected to reach full agreement to sign 'magnificent' Tottenham Hotspur player today - journalist
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso looks set to leave North London this summer and journalist Matteo Moretto reports the club are expected to reach a full agreement with Villarreal for the player today.
The ‘magnificent’ Lo Celso has found himself frozen out of Spurs this season as he has not featured in any matchday squads during pre-season and was left out of the squad for the Premier League opener against Southampton.
The Argentine spent the second half of last season on loan at Villarreal and was a huge success for the La Liga side as they reached the Champions League semi-final.
And now it seems the 26-year-old is edging closer to a move back to Spain and a deal could be agreed as soon as today.
Football journalist Matteo Moretto reports that there have been fresh talks between Spurs and Villarreal today, with both clubs expecting to reach a full agreement.
Lo Celso is eager to rejoin Unai Emery in La Liga and today could be a vital day in negotiations.
Full agreement with Spurs for Lo Celso
Reports have also suggested that the Argentina international has received interest from Serie A, with Fiorentina even making a move for the player this summer.
But now Lo Celso seems to be close to sealing a move back to La Liga, where he enjoyed a brilliant spell for Real Betis as well as Unai Emery’s men.
Spurs have been busy adding players to Antonio Conte’s squad this summer as they’ve signed six players to bolster his options. Now the club are looking to sell players who don’t feature in the Italian’s plans and Lo Celso definitely seems to fit that description.
A move back to Villarreal makes perfect sense for the player considering how well he played there last season and as the deal looks to be a permanent move, rather than a loan, Spurs will also be happy to part ways with the Argentine.
It just hasn’t worked out for Lo Celso at Tottenham, despite some promising displays when he first joined the club. The Argentine is clearly a talented player and needs to move on for regular first-team football.
