Report: Newcastle want ‘fantastic’ £60m England international as marquee summer signing

Newcastle United remain keen on bringing in Dominic Calvert-Lewin and could look to test Everton’s resolve in the summer transfer window, providing they stay in the Premier League.

Calvert-Lewin has struggled for fitness at Everton this season but has still managed a goal every two games when he has played. The England striker is a wanted man, with Arsenal said to among the clubs chasing him, along with Newcastle.

The Telegraph reports today how Everton are bracing themselves for bids for Calvert-Lewin. And one of those bids could come from Newcastle, who have been keeping an eye on the striker’s progress since the summer. Reports this week have also suggested West Ham are keen, although Calvert-Lewin’s £60m valuation might put the Hammers off.

It’s claimed in The Telegraph that Newcastle still see Calvert-Lewin as the ideal signing, despite splashing out around £25m on Chris Wood this month. Of course, ‘DCL’ is much younger than Wood, meaning he’s a more long-term signing for PIF.

Newcastle are frantically trying to complete a number of deals before Monday’s deadline. A big move for Bruno Guimaraes is set to be completed. The Mags are also waiting to sign Mitchel Bakker, with an agreement in place to land the Leverkusen ace.

TBR’s View: Calvert-Lewin Perfect For Newcastle And Others

Everton are a mess at the moment so it would be no surprise to see Calvert-Lewin walk away in the summer. If Newcastle can stay up, then a move northeast wouldn’t be the worst idea.

The Magpies will continually improve their squad, you feel. A bit like when Man City began their process, it could be a case of improving window after window. Calvert-Lewin, then, could lead the charge.

Of course, Arsenal will want to be in the mix too. But Newcastle can offer huge money, in terms of both the fee and wages. Labelled as ‘fantastic’ by Carlo Ancelotti, Calvert-Lewin is certainly a striker who ticks a lot of boxes.
