Newcastle United are in the final hours of this summer’s transfer window and are in desperate need of something big to be pulled off.
On the pitch, Newcastle have made a solid start to the 2024/25 campaign but away from the pitch it has been anything but.
Eddie Howe is set to go into the first half of the season with a squad which is arguably weaker than what he ended last term with.
Having allowed two of their top young prospects to leave earlier this summer in Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh, Newcastle have failed to strengthen.
The highlight of Newcastle’s business has been Lloyd Kelly arriving on a free transfer with the Toon really struggling to get their deals over the line.
But there could be one final signing to land on Tyneside on deadline day with Newcastle looking to pip Liverpool to a signature.

Newcastle aiming to beat Liverpool to ‘outstanding’ player
The player all Toon fans will be wanting to see signed today is Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi who Newcastle have bid for multiple times.
Fabrizio Romano has claimed a late move for Guehi to Newcastle has now been ruled out completely just yet.
But there is another area of the pitch which Newcastle are still looking to address before Friday night’s deadline.

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle are now looking to reach an agreement with Burnley for their goalkeeper James Trafford.
Burnley are believed to value their shot stopper in excess of £20m this summer.
Newcastle opened talks to sign the ‘outstanding’ Trafford earlier this week as they aim to make a last minute signing to avoid a seriously underwhelming summer.
Paul Mitchell was in the stands over the weekend watching Trafford in action against Sunderland.
This is a player who Liverpool have reportedly scouted alongside the likes of Bayern Munich and Chelsea.
What Pep Guardiola previously said about James Trafford
Although Newcastle have Nick Pope currently between the sticks, Trafford is a player who could offer them long-term cover in goal.
Pep Guardiola has previously hailed Trafford having come through the ranks at Manchester City before moving to Burnley.
“I always say to him, even when we were little, that he is going to be world class. I don’t think everyone has seen it yet and this tournament he is showing it now,” he said.
“I already knew how good he was, and I am just glad everyone is seeing it.”
The issue with ending this summer’s transfer window on Trafford for Newcastle would the fact they’ve already signed two backup goalkeepers despite the needs to strengthen elsewhere.
Some serious questions may need answering at board level come the end of play tonight.
