Newcastle United are now pushing to make a move for Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi work over the coming hours.
Having underwhelmed in this summer’s transfer window, Newcastle are now left with a matter of hours remaining to finalise any potential deals.
Eddie Howe has only really seen Lloyd Kelly added to his squad on a free transfer this summer when it comes to outfield additions.
The Toon have brought in two backup goalkeepers but Alan Shearer has now warned Paul Mitchell and Darren Eales they’re at risk of embarrassing themselves if no more players arrive.
There is one deal which Newcastle are hoping to get over the line but it is not proving to be an easy one to pull off.
Newcastle are locked in talks with Crystal Palace over Guehi who happened to have played for the Eagles on Tuesday night in the Carabao Cup.

Marc Guehi to Newcastle transfer latest
Newcastle entered the summer window knowing they needed defensive reinforcements due to the injuries of Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman.
However, the only arrival has been on a free transfer with Newcastle having eyed a number of centre-backs like Malick Thiaw.
But it has been a real struggle for the Magpies to get their top target over the line with Newcastle having now submitted numerous bids for Guehi.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Fabrizio Romano has now claimed the Toon are going to be hoping for a breakthrough over the next hours with the clock ticking down.
“We’re still at the same stage. It’s been close for three months, I think, so we are still there with this negotiation ongoing between Newcastle and Crystal Palace,” he said.
“Newcastle are not giving up and, despite reports on other defenders, they still want Marc Guehi. They are still pushing for this deal to happen. So, I’m sure that they will keep going in the next hours to try and reach an agreement with Crystal Palace.”
Newcastle will be left exposed if they don’t sign Marc Guehi
It is going to be a real embarrassment for Newcastle if they do not end up signing Guehi by the end of play on Friday.
Having spent weeks upon weeks trying to strike a deal with Palace, the Toon are now heading into the final hours of the window without a new, top quality centre-back.
Injuries were a huge issue for Newcastle last season and this summer has not seen Howe’s squad get any stronger – if anything it has weakened.
Not only would not landing Guehi be a big issue for Howe and his squad, it would also be a huge embarrassment to the board.
Although it was not ideal having to look for a new sporting director, this summer has really looked like Newcastle have entered the window without any real plan.
