With the January transfer window in full swing, Newcastle United can finally bolster their ranks.
Defence is an area the Magpies desperately need to strengthen.
Newcastle have been linked with Sven Botman, but The Telegraph claims they’ve identified a potential alternative.

The outlet claims Sevilla’s Diego Carlos is on Eddie Howe’s radar this month.
The 28-year-old is a left-footed centre-back with a reported £30million price tag.
Carlos is an essential player for his club, clocking up 116 competitive appearances since 2019.
In 2020, a Squawka report described him as one of the most physically imposing centre-backs in European football.
“At 6ft 1in, the Brazilian is average height for a centre-back,” they wrote.
“But he makes up for it with acute positional instincts, athleticism and aggression.”
Several Brazilians have been linked with Newcastle in recent weeks.
The Magpies hierarchy has apparently been looking at Philippe Coutinho and Gabriel Barbosa too.

Last year, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was reportedly eyeing Carlos.
Fabiano Soares, his former coach at Estoril, sung his praises, in conversation with ESPN Brasil.
“He is very fast. That is why Klopp should keep an eye on him,” he said.
“He is a dynamic, intense, fast player.
“Players who are fast and strong and competitive and who have quality, coaches will always look at him.”
Admittedly, Newcastle will have a real mission on their hands trying to sign Carlos.
Sevilla are second in La Liga, just five points off top spot, and are in the Europa League knockouts.
In addition, Carlos’ contract runs until 2024.
