Report: £30m star's stance on Newcastle move, 'likes' idea of Joelinton partnership

The Chronicle claim that Gabriel Barbosa is keen on the idea of a move to Newcastle United in January. It is believed the £30million-rated striker is keen on the idea of combining with fellow Brazilian Joelinton.

Joelinton has been utterly rejuvenated under Eddie Howe, after being turned into more of a midfielder under the ex-Bournemouth gaffer. It is one of a number of positives under the new Toon gaffer, with optimism returning.

While Newcastle still sit low in the Premier League table, Kieran Trippier is supposedly on the verge of joining. Newcastle are expected to make the England star the first of four big-name arrivals in the January window.

Barbosa, 25, scored an impressive 29 goals in 41 games for Flamengo during 2021. 90Min say Newcastle are one of a number of clubs that want the £30million-rated forward – Arsenal, too. Now, his stance has been made clear.

The Chronicle claim that Barbosa wants a move to Newcastle and ‘likes’ the idea of playing for the Tyneside club. He is also keen on the idea of combining with the in-form Joelinton. Callum Wilson is currently injured.

The Chronicle also state that Newcastle could sign him on loan with a permanent clause included worth £17million. It is unclear how much a loan fee might cost, but Barbosa would be a brilliant signing for the Toon.

His move to Inter did not work out, but he has returned to Brazil and become a more-complete player. Newcastle need some excitement, a player to put the ball in the net with Wilson out. Barbosa is certainly capable of doing so.
