Florian Plettenberg has shared the price which Newcastle United have set for Kieran Trippier as Bayern Munich continue to target the right-back in the January transfer window.
Someone within the Bayern hierarchy certainly seems to remember England’s 2018 World Cup campaign very fondly. Of course, the Bundesliga giants have already signed Harry Kane and Eric Dier since the end of last season.
And it seems that Kieran Trippier could be next. Bayern are interested in signing Trippier this month. And it seems that the right-back is keen to make the move after two years on Tyneside (via Daily Mail).
Newcastle want up to £12 million for Kieran Trippier amid Bayern Munich interest
But it would appear that the Bavarian side have a lot of work to do before they unveil the 33-year-old.

Speaking on Sky Sports News (broadcast on 22/1; 09:09), Plettenberg suggested that Trippier is not a target the Bayern hierarchy are completely agreed upon – partially because Newcastle want up to £12 million for the defender this month.
“He’s still a target for FC Bayern Munich because there’s still no breakthrough in terms of negotiations between FC Bayern and PSG because the reason is Bayern is pushing for an option to buy Nordi Mukiele. PSG, they want an obligation to buy. So at this stage, the deal with Mukiele is close to being off. And this is why Trippier is a hot candidate for FC Bayern right now,” he said.
“But you have to say that not everyone of the bosses is convinced about Kieran Trippier at FC Bayern. He’s 33 years old. For sure, he’s very versatile, he’s experienced. But he’s not very cheap. And to our understanding, he has a salary of around €7 or €8 million gross per year if he would join FC Bayern Munich. And we hear that Newcastle demand around €13, €14 million for an obligation to buy or for a permanent deal.”
Magpies can now move forward without right-back
Had Newcastle fans been asked about the prospect of Trippier leaving just a few months ago, they would have probably said that there is no way that he should be sold for anything like £12 million.
Perhaps many will still feel that way. He has been a game-changing signing for the club. And he has still managed seven assists in just 19 league games this season.
But Trippier has been out of form for a little while now. And Newcastle do have Tino Livramento waiting in the wings. So it is perhaps not quite the devastating loss it would have been six months ago.
£12 million may not make a huge difference to what Newcastle can do in this transfer window. But clearly, it is the amount which would leave the club thinking that they have got a good deal.
