Newcastle United’s pre-season is up and running but the club have been hit with some great uncertainty in recent days.

Focus from the fans will now return back to club action on the back of the weekend’s Euro disappointment after England lost against Spain.

In the wake of the game, Gareth Southgate has stepped down as England manager and Newcastle‘s Eddie Howe has become one of the favourites to succeed him.

The 46-year-old’s release clause details have emerged as his name rises to the top of the list to replace Southgate.

However, there is one established manager whose name is already been tipped as Howe’s possible successor at St James’ Park.

Premier League winner could replace Eddie Howe at Newcastle

Over the last couple of years, Howe has been able to guide Newcastle on their return to European football following their Saudi-based takeover.

Of course, the Toon fell just short last season but there were a lot of factors contributing to their seventh-placed finish including countless injuries.

But the rise from the side which was managed by Steve Bruce to what Newcastle are now is night and day.

Losing Howe would feel like a huge blow following what he has created on Tyneside, but there is a big name who could be a real option to replace him.

According to GiveMeSport, Newcastle could potentially look towards Roberto Mancini as Howe’s successor if he is to take the England job.

“If Howe was to leave the job for England, then it would lead Newcastle on a quest to find a proven winner that elevates their standing in the game and finally wins them a trophy,” said journalist Dean Jones.

“A few months ago I was told that Roberto Mancini would be a serious contender if they were to look for a new manager, so that might be one to look out for.

“Finding somebody that has shown they can go head-to-head with the top managers and also help bring in top players is what they’ll be looking for. So let’s see what happens with Howe, but it could actually lead to some very interesting times.”

Roberto Mancini could be easy appointment to pull off

Currently, the former Premier League-winning manager with Manchester City is managing the Saudi Arabia national side.

The Italian guided Italy to Euro triumph against England a few years ago and has got his hands on countless other trophies in his career.

Having taken the role as the Saudi manager last August, it would be interesting to see how easily Newcastle would be able to prise him away if needed.

Not only would working on Tyneside provide Mancini a return to the Premier League, but due to Newcastle’s ownership, it could be an appointment which could be sanctioned quickly.
