Sevilla director of football Monchi has been discussing former Tottenham ace Erik Lamela’s move as part of the deal for Bryan Gil.
What’s the story?
Spurs completed the signing of the 20-year-old in a £21m plus Lamela deal last month.
Speaking about the agreement between the two clubs, he claimed it was a great deal for his side.
When talking about the financial implications, Monchi told Diario de Sevilla: “We had the sword of Damocles of the salary limit, but economically it has been a magnificent operation.”
Since moving to La Liga, the Argentine international has since claimed he was ‘seduced‘ into joining the Spanish outfit.
And it seems Monchi shares the same excitement about signing the 29-year-old. He called the South American a ‘very good’ footballer.
When talking about Lamela, the 52-year-old told Diario de Sevilla: “We have done a good economic operation and a very good player has come, who has to regain his level.”

Lamela not justifying the hype
Lamela is not a ‘very good player’, and was not for Tottenham, as Monchi claims he is.
Since his days with AS Roma, the player’s career path has headed in one direction and that is in steep decline.
The attacker only ever reached double figures for goals in one season in north London. When you consider the reputation with which he arrived, his attacking contributions have been woeful.
Lamela has attributes that could make him an asset for anyone. The problem is, those qualities are not shown on a consistent basis.
