Reports this week have emerged to suggest Spurs and Sevilla are in talks over a move which would see Gil come to north London, and £21m and Lamela go the other way to Spain.

Fabio Paratici has been working to get the deal over the line this week and now Romano has taken to Twitter to all but confirm the deal is done.

Lamela is one of a number of players being allowed to leave by both Paratici and new manager, Nuno Santo.

Gil, meanwhile, is one of Spain’s top young players and there is genuine excitement that Spurs have got themselves the real deal here.

Lamela’s spell with Spurs brings an end to the era of players who were bought with the money received from the sale of Gareth Bale.

Great deal

Lamela has always been a bit marmite among Spurs fans but there won’t be too many tears shed over his departure. He just hasn’t done it, unfortunately, on a consistent basis.

The time is now for him to move on and in Gil, Spurs are getting a top young player. Yes, they’re forking out over £20m and a player for Gil, but he is that good on his day.

Fabio Paratici deserves enormous credit for his work this week. He’s got down to business and got deals done. Spurs fans, then, can start to get that bit more excited about the new campaign.
