Mikel Arteta has heaped praise on one Arsenal summer signing after featuring for the Gunners against Crystal Palace – but it wasn’t goalscorer Eberechi Eze.

Eze’s strike against his former club proved decisive in what was Arteta’s seventh win of the campaign, propelling Arsenal to the top of the Premier League table.

Five Arsenal summer signings featured in the game. Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi, and Eze started, while Christhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapie came off the bench.

The latter two earned special praise from Arteta after the match.

Mikel Arteta on Piero Hincapie and Christhian Mosquera

Mosquera and Hincapie were brought on due to injuries to Declan Rice and William Saliba, forming a makeshift back three. Arteta was impressed with their performance, even indicating that Arsenal fans are “going to love“ watching Hincapie.

He told club media: “For Mosquera, big credit for him because he’s played only one year in La Liga, comes to a new league with huge demands, and immediately he’s having a real impact.

“It’s great to have Piero on the pitch as well. You could sense his aggression and commitment in every action. I think the crowd is going to love him, and credit to the rest of the boys who had to come in to win the game.”

Mosquera has been solid when called upon, while Hincapie hasn’t featured as much as he might have liked – but performances like this show the new arrivals can be relied on.

Hincapie’s versatility and Mosquera’s solidity make them valuable additions for Arsenal.

Arteta claims Crystal Palace win was one of the season’s biggest

The victory was one Arteta will reflect on fondly. He highlighted this post-match.

He continued: “I’m really happy with this one. I told the boys it was probably the biggest victory so far this season – the way we approached it today.

“We’d played three teams we dropped points against last season, and Palace are in excellent form. We had to be patient, stay concentrated, and not get frustrated because they’re lethal on the counter, in open spaces, and from set pieces.

“I’m glad the team showed maturity. We found a way to score a brilliant goal through Eze and kept a clean sheet. The mindset has been exceptional – the level of aggression, insistence, and relentlessness we play with is ruthless. When our habits are at their highest, it makes things very difficult for the opponent.”

Arsenal have made a sensational start to the season. Next weekend, they travel to Burnley, aiming to further extend their lead at the top of England’s top flight.
