Mikel Arteta has provided an injury update on Declan Rice and William Saliba after Arsenal beat Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

Eberechi Eze’s goal ensured Arsenal got the victory, but Saliba and Rice’s substitutions were a major concern for fans and Mikel Arteta alike after the game’s conclusion.

Saliba was forced off at half-time against Crystal Palace due to an apparent injury, with Cristian Mosquera taking his place.

Rice, on the other hand, lasted 82 minutes, with Mikel Merino coming on after the English midfielder was assessed by Arsenal staff.

The Arsenal boss has now issued an update on the pair.

Speaking after the Arsenal against Crystal Palace clash to Sky Sports, Arteta said on the two injuries, “William Saliba felt some pain. Declan [Rice] was the same.”

A brief update from the Spaniard, but more will surely follow on the Arsenal duo in due course.

Despite the injury woes for the pair, and potentially Gabriel Martinelli, Arteta was happy with the Gunners’ performance as a whole.

He continued: “I’m really happy because we knew the difficulty of the match. It was a crucial win against a good side. Today we were clinical and defensively excellent. No one really generates big chances against them with the way they set up.

“They [players] earned it. The way they compete and play, the way they want to win, it’s amazing. The five [substitutes] that came on today made a big difference again. You see the other results in the Premier League…you have to be so good to win.”

Arsenal fans noted some issues in the Palace win, but overall, it was a job well done for the Gunners, with yet another win in England’s top flight. That said, the injuries are a blow.

Arsenal face Brighton in the EFL Cup this Wednesday, where they’ll be hoping both are back and ready to face the Seagulls. If not, a Premier League trip against in-form Burnley awaits.
