Liverpool are yet to sign a player this summer and face a race against time to reinforce their squad before the transfer deadline.
Martin Zubimendi opted to stay at Real Sociedad despite concrete interest from the Reds, coming as a massive blow to Arne Slot’s transfer plans.
The Liverpool boss identified the number six position as an area of the pitch that needs work in the transfer market but was unable to sign his top target Zubimendi.
The Reds, though, have been linked with other midfielders, Manu Kone being one of them.
And now, the young midfielder is believed to discussing a potential transfer after being left out of Borussia Monchengladbach’s matchday squad for their Bundesliga opener against Bayer Leverkusen.
Manu Kone discussing potential move from Gladbach

Gladbach confirmed on X that the 23-year-old won’t feature against Leverkusen, indicating that he has already played his last game for the club.
Kone was offered to Liverpool and a bunch of other Premier League clubs this summer, with the midfielder believed to be keen on a transfer before the deadline.
Liverpool also wanted to sign Kone last summer before snapping up Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich, indicating that he is a player they’ve kept an eye on over the years.
However, according to Gianluca di Marzio, the young French midfielder is wanted by Roma and AC Milan before the transfer deadline.
The Reds are yet to make a move for him and it remains to be seen if they press ahead with their interest in the coming days.
Do Liverpool need a player like Manu Kone?
Liverpool have a lot of young players like Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones and Stefen Bajcetic in midfield.
What they lack is an out-and-out number six and a potential ceiling raiser who can come straight into the game and do the job for Slot.
At this stage of his career, Kone is neither of those two things, so Liverpool would be best advised to look at other options.
Teun Koopmeiners is another player who has been linked with a move to Anfield, but with Juventus also in the running, Liverpool need to act fast to snap him up before the transfer deadline.
