Medical expertise reveals if Trent Alexander-Arnold could miss Liverpool v Real Madrid clash amid injury update

Trent Alexander-Arnold is now a doubt to feature for Real Madrid when they travel to face Liverpool in the Champions League.

The Scouser is pencilled in for an Anfield reunion on 4 November in a repeat of last season’s league phase clash, wherein the Reds recorded a 2-0 win courtesy of goals from Cody Gakpo and Alexis Mac Allister.

Trent is a loathed figure among the Liverpool fans following his decision to leave his boyhood club upon the expiry of his contract – he arrived at his Madrid unveiling and spoke in fluent Spanish.

Liverpool boast a perfect record in the Premier League thus far and will begin their Champions League campaign on Wednesday evening when they face Atletico Madrid at Anfield.

And while the Reds will play three games in Europe before Trent’s return to Merseyside, he could now be ruled out of the clash after he sustained a hamstring injury during Madrid’s 2-1 win against Marseille.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is likely to be missing vs Liverpool

Fabrizio Romano confirmed via X that Trent has suffered a muscle injury in the femoral biceps of his left leg, which, in layman’s terms, translates to a hamstring injury.

The 26-year-old lasted only five minutes at the Santiago Bernabeu before he was forced off via injury, in the latest of a series of reported setbacks for the full-back, with Xabi Alonso preferring to utilise Dani Carvajal in recent weeks.

Jamie O’Hara predicted that Trent would not face Liverpool, and while the talkSPORT pundit made his point for alternative reasons, it appears that his prediction is likely to be realised.

According to the Cleveland Clinic’s official website, Trent is set for a considerable spell on the sidelines depending on the severity of the injury.

The only instance in which he would be ready to face Liverpool is if he suffered a grade one injury (mild strain), which would rule him out for between one and three weeks.

However, a grade two injury (moderate tear) would keep Trent out of action for one to two months, and a grade three injury (severe/complete tear) would result in three to six months of rehabilitation.

Indeed, Liverpool supporters have been vocal about Trent and his performances since he left the club. Until a further update is provided on his latest injury setback, it is safe to assume they will not have the opportunity to voice their opinions in person on 4 November.

Trent Alexander-Arnold sends message to Real Madrid supporters

While the probability of Trent missing the clash against Liverpool is high as things stand, he has sent a message to the Madridistas.

Writing on his Instagram account, he said: “(I) Will be back as soon as possible. Stronger than before. See you soon, Madridistas.”

Liverpool have seamlessly replaced the full-back, with Dominik Szoboszlai, who has produced phenomenal displays deputising at right-back this season. The Hungarian has drawn comparisons to Trent after his sensational free-kick goal against Arsenal.

Although no rational Liverpool supporter will deny the club lost a generational talent when Trent packed his bags for Madrid, almost no one would have expected that the Reds would, in fact, not skip a beat in his absence.
