Liverpool fans are all saying the same thing about Real Madrid after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s debut against Al-Hilal

Former Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold made his debut for Real Madrid in the Club World Cup meeting against Al-Hilal.

Trent Alexander-Arnold departed his boyhood club on a free transfer this summer to link up with Xabi Alonso’s side.

The manner of his Liverpool departure didn’t go down well with a lot of fans, while his superb Spanish at his first press conference also raised some eyebrows.

Real Madrid are said to have paid Liverpool a fee in the region of £10million to enable Alexander-Arnold to join in time for the Club World Cup.

Alexander-Arnold’s contract was set to expire at the end of June, but the Reds agreed to let him join Real Madrid at the start of June for the additional fee.

Liverpool fans were buzzing over Richard Hughes’ Alexander-Arnold masterstroke – and they’re even happier after seeing how the defender fared on his debut.

Liverpool fans feel Real Madrid have overpaid for Trent Alexander-Arnold

Alexander-Arnold was disappointing on his debut for Real Madrid, to put it mildly.

He committed a mistake which enabled Al-Hilal to find the back of the net, only for it to be flagged for offside.

Alexander-Arnold lost more duels than any other player on the pitch in the first half as he struggled to find his feet.

His evening came to an end just after the hour mark as Lucas Vazquez replaced him, and Liverpool fans felt Real Madrid got ripped off.

“They paid £10m to get Trent early, and thought that was a good deal,” one Liverpool supporter said on X.

Another wrote: “Madrid paid Liverpool £10m for a washed Trent…”

The criticism kept coming, with one fan saying: “Anywho what a wonderful hatewatch that was on Trent.

“Judging by that performance, anything over £10m would have been ambitious.”

Another supporter wrote: “Real Madrid got Trent for as little as €10M and still got scammed.”

Another said: “We rinsed Madrid £10m for Trent so he can get rinsed by Al Hilal.”

And another wrote: “Trent still can’t defend. Can’t believe Madrid actually paid £10m for him.”

Who has replaced Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool

Liverpool wasted no time in signing Alexander-Arnold’s replacement as they landed Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen.

The Reds reportedly paid Leverkusen €35million (£29.5million) to sign Frimpong – capped 13 times by the Netherlands on a five-year contract.

Frimpong is an exciting talent who is proven at the highest level and, at just 24 years of age, is yet to reach his prime.

Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes previously said, as per the Bundesliga website: “Jeremie Frimpong has not only become one of our team’s best players, but in his position as an attacking right-back, he has become one of the best players in the Bundesliga.”

Frimpong certainly struck the right note when it came to praising Liverpool after his move.

“I think this is the best stadium I played in when I was with Leverkusen,” he said. “The atmosphere, the fans, the team as well. The whole package is great.

“I don’t need to say too much about the quality [of Liverpool]. They won the league.

“For me, playing against Liverpool when I was in Leverkusen, really difficult. Really, really difficult.

“How can I say it? Obviously Leverkusen were still good but you can see that Liverpool is next level.”
