Marquinhos scores and assists for Arsenal U21s vs Man United
Arsenal U21s picked up an impressive 3-1 victory over their Manchester United counterparts, and summer signing Marquinhos was the star of the show.
The Gunners agreed a £3 million deal (Goal) with Brazilian giants Sao Paulo to sign the 19-year-old, who was regarded as one of the finest talents to come out of O Clube da Fé.
Marquinhos shines for Arsenal U21s vs Man United
The Arsenal U21s kickstarted their Premier League 2 campaign at home against Manchester United today. The young Gunners started off on a winning note thanks to goals from Khayon Edwards, Marquinhos and Miguel Azeez.
The hero of the match was young Marquinhos, who was unplayable at times.
He started on the right flank and was a constant threat. He scored his first goal for the club in the 46th minute to put the Gunners ahead, but what made his performance even better was his assist to Azeez just four minutes later.
Marquinhos found the talented Arsenal midfielder with a delightful pass with the outside of his boot. Jorge Bird described the assist as ‘breathtaking’, and Gunners fans should be really excited about the teenager.
Mikel Arteta was in attendance
Jorge Bird reveals that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was in attendance at Meadow Park this afternoon. The Gunners manager would’ve watched Marquinhos’ brilliance, and we’re sure he would’ve been impressed.
When Arsenal signed the young Brazilian, there was a lot of talk about sending him out on loan. The Gunners already have Bukayo Saka, Nicolas Pepe and Reiss Nelson in his position, which means he’s well down the pecking order. A move away to gain some experience made a lot of sense.
However, just last week, reports revealed that Marquinhos is set to be given opportunities in Arsenal’s first team this season after the Gunners failed to secure Raphinha’s signature.
The ‘electrifyingly fast‘ winger is already in Arteta’s plans, and his performance against the Manchester United U21s at Meadow Park today would’ve surely given the Arsenal boss a few things to think about.
