Report: 'Electrifyingly fast' 19-year-old impresses for Arsenal in today's loss to Brentford
Arsenal have made several high-profile signings in the summer transfer window.
The likes of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko will be expected to hit the ground running for the first team.
However, plenty of Arsenal fans are just as eager to see how Marquinhos is doing.
The 19-year-old Brazilian was Mikel Arteta’s first signing of the close season.
Marquinhos completed a £3million move to Arsenal after breaking into the Sao Paulo first team over the past 12 months.
The youngster didn’t play against Everton or Orlando City in the United States due to a small knock.
However, he did make an appearance in the latter stages of the win against Chelsea.
And on Tuesday, Marquinhos played the full 90 minutes in the behind-closed-doors friendly loss to Brentford.
Better still, the teenager reportedly put in an impressive display for Arsenal at London Colney.
The match report on the Gunners website claimed that Marquinhos twice came close to netting for his side.
He weighed in with a low drive which Thomas Strakosha saved, shortly before Arsenal equalised through Eddie Nketiah.
Then, Marquinhos again came close when Matt Turner sprung a quick counter-attack following a corner.
However, the Brazilian’s attempted lob over Strakosha went wide.
Football.london also praised Marquinhos’ performance, describing it as ‘another lively display’ in which he ‘appeared to impress’.
The ‘electrifyingly fast‘ attacker could well still go out on loan this season in order to pick up experience.
But, as per football.london, ‘there’s no reason why he can’t turn their heads after Gabriel Martinelli’s breakthrough in 2019.’
