Manchester United beat Sunderland 2-0 on Saturday afternoon to relieve the pressure on manager Ruben Amorim, and one player in particular has contributed massively to that.
The Red Devils began the season in horrific fashion, failing to win either of their opening two Premier League games against Arsenal or Fulham before an infamous penalty shoot-out defeat to Grimsby Town in the League Cup.
However, since then, Manchester United have since picked up the pace in the league, with three consecutive home wins over Burnley, Chelsea and Sunderland, despite two losses to local rivals Manchester City and Brentford in the meantime.
It sees the club sit in the top half of the table with ten points from seven games, a marked improvement upon last season’s form.
There are tough games to come against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur over the next month, which will be a real test to Ruben Amorim’s credentials – but he is being helped by one star who joins Mohamed Salah and Antoine Semenyo in esteemed company.

Bryan Mbeumo’s Manchester United assist makes him one of the top attacking players in the Premier League
The Red Devils signed Bryan Mbeumo for £71million from Brentford in the summer transfer window after the Cameroonian star scored 20 Premier League goals for the Bees last season.
Goals were a huge issue last season, with only Everton and the three relegated sides scoring fewer than United in the league in that time.
Mbeumo, as well as new signings Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha, were introduced to change their fortunes at Old Trafford, and it appears to be working.
The 26-year-old grabbed an assist for Mason Mount to open the scoring against Sunderland on Saturday, marking his first assist for United this season.
But more importantly, on a personal note, it has seen Mbeumo become just the third player in the league to score 10 or more goals and register five or more assists in 2025.
Only Premier League winner Salah – who has been a star at Liverpool over the last year – and Bournemouth hero Semenyo have reached that tally, putting him in a cohort trio with some of the league’s finest players.

Bryan Mbeumo output could save Ruben Amorim’s job at Manchester United
Although Mbeumo has only registered two goal contributions in the league for United since his summer move, with both of those coming against newly-promoted sides, it does set a precedent for United going forward.
Barring flashes of Amad Diallo brilliance last season, they didn’t have that much of an attacking focus with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee faltering in front of goal.
Having a player in the final third with as much influence as Mbeumo will only help Amorim to keep his job and propel United up the table.

If he can conjure up his Brentford form, Mbeumo could be the difference between qualifying for European football or not, which may be a masterplan from INEOS.
