Manchester United allowed several players to leave during the summer transfer window, and Rio Ferdinand believes one of them seems like they have been reborn.

The success of many ex-Manchester United players has added to the pressure on Ruben Amorim, as they’re proving that they

Rasmus Hojlund is one of those examples, with the striker having scored three goals in five games during his loan move to Napoli.

However, it’s a different player who is catching the eye of Ferdinand, who is also showcasing that he’s still got plenty of gas in the tank.

Rio Ferdinand has been impressed by Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford grew through Manchester United’s ranks from the academy system to being a staple of the team, but under Amorim, that went sour.

He struggled for game time under the current boss, and that resulted in him being sent out on loan to Aston Villa in the second half of last season.

Rashford is now spending the season on loan at Barcelona, and Ferdinand has been left impressed by what he has seen from the England international.

Rashford provided an assist in Barcelona’s 2-1 loss against PSG in the Champions League this week, which made him the top assist maker for the entire team this season.

It continued his strong run of form since joining the Spanish giants, with Rashford rolling back the years and reminding fans that he still has plenty of gas in the tank.

Rashford has played his way back into the England set-up under Thomas Tuchel, and he continues to grow and prove that Manchester United might have made a poor decision letting him go.

Rio Ferdinand speculated on why Manchester United let Marcus Rashford go

United legend Ferdinand spoke on Rio Ferdinand Presents, and tried to come up with a reason for the club letting Rashford go after becoming a star out of their academy.

It was a move people expected due to his treatment under Amorim, but given his links to the club, it was still surprising to see him playing for a different club.

He said: “There must have been so much going on behind the scenes that we’re just not aware of.

“And Marcus isn’t someone who really wants to talk and do interviews, so you have to respect that.

“But I’m sure it’ll come out in the wash at some point. Is it because of a lack of form? A lack of confidence? Mismanagement? Have the club failed him?

“Or is it down to him? Is there injuries we don’t know about? Has he lost that desire? That form is gone and he can’t rekindle it and can’t get it back?

“What are the issues that have led to a young kid that’s a graduate of the academy at Manchester United, which is famous for all of the great players that have come through there, that he says he wants to leave?
