‘Major signings’… Celtic given exciting transfer update before deadline day

Day 29 of the January transfer window and Celtic have added just one new face to the squad in Nicholas Khun.

With Brendan Rodgers promising to add quality to the ranks, as well as removing players with no future, with less than four days to go and a number of positions needing to be strengthened, the Celtic support are getting anxious at the lack of activity inside the Parkhead corridors.

However, it seems that there may well be no need to panic. Celtic have been tipped to make ‘at least’ a couple of signings before the window closes on Thursday night and Jim Duffy seems extremely confident that Rodgers will make ‘major signings’ to help improve the team.

Duffy said [Clyde Superscoreboard], “I don’t think there’s complacency. I think that they would have been trying everything to try and get the right type of players that Brendan Rodgers is going to be happy with.

“This is the situation of trying to make sure it’s the right blend of players, the right type of players that Brendan Rodgers mentioned a couple of months ago when he said he would like four signings to come, but be competitive in the first team and make a difference.

“I agree 100% that they should be bringing players in. There is still a week to go.

“I think if you asked me the same question a week ago and they hadn’t signed anybody it would be a major surprise.

“So I fully expect another couple of signings for Celtic possibly a striker and a full-back. I think there’ll be at least a couple.

“I’ll be amazed if the window closes and Celtic don’t have a couple of major signings in.”

Transfer relief for the Celtic fans?

If what Duffy says is correct, then this will be a huge relief to the Celtic fans. With the club seemingly dragging their heels in this window and no communication or even whispers of any moves happening, the supporters are getting increasingly frustrated.

With the goalkeeper, left back and striker positions all requiring strengthening, that is a lot of work needing to be done in such a short space of time. It is little wonder the supporters are getting jittery.

With five points separating Celtic and Rangers at the top of the table, albeit the Ibrox club has a game in hand, there is little room for error in the title run-in.

With a £60m Champions League pot of cash awaiting the winners there is a lot riding on this title so Rodgers’ next transfer moves must be bang on the money to ensure that the league trophy keeps its place in the Parkhead trophy room.
