Pundit Martin Keown has now been left in awe of one Tottenham Hotspur player in the victory over Brighton & Hove Albion yesterday.

Ange Postecoglou’s side looked unlikely to claim three points on what proved to be a tricky afternoon in North London.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side arrived ready to press Tottenham in high areas, which is usually the treatment the away side gets.

But Brighton did unsettle Spurs’ back line at times, as the home team did in reverse.

It made for a fascinating encounter, one eventually won by Brennan Johnson’s late winner.

And when reviewing the game for the BBC’s Match of the Day, Martin Keown was amazed at how Tottenham eventually carved Brighton open.

Moreover, Keown was particularly impressed by Son Heung-min’s assist for the winning goal.

The captain certainly returned with a bang off of the bench, just days after being eliminated from the Asian Cup.

Spurs’ £22m captain was devastated after exiting the tournament, and does deserve a ton of praise for picking himself up again so quickly.

Keown was also impressed by Spurs’ reluctance to divert from their game plan, even when unsettled by Brighton’s pressure.

And through good work by Richarlison initially, Keown thought Tottenham deserved their winner against Brighton.

Keown said: “This was really good play here, this is the goal, this is a thing of beauty, this is why they stuck to their principles despite losing the ball.

“Son making the run on the overlap, Richarlison with options, he’s off the bench, Son, look at this for a ball – puts it across the box for Johnson in the 96th minute and it pays off.

“It’s that belief, it was, it was an incredible win for them, really great to see.”

Of course, it really was an afternoon the delineated the direction Spurs are heading in under Postecoglou.

It wasn’t perfect, there’s room for improvement, but the Tottenham faithful now finally have a project and team they can believe in.

And if late-winners become a habit, that will certainly be welcome too.

That being said, Ange Postecoglou was left delighted with one of his Spurs players yesterday.
