Report: Liverpool now want 'exceptional' £42m World Cup star; he was tipped to be better than Foden
Liverpool are continuing to monitor a number of midfield targets and according to reports, have added Polish midfielder Piotr Zielinski to their list.
The Reds are known to be in the race for Jude Bellingham. However, with so much interest in the England and Dortmund star, FSG and Jurgen Klopp know that others will have to be considered.
And according to Rudy Galetti, Zielinski is now a name on Liverpool’s list. The journalist writes on his Calcio&Mercato website that Zielinski is among a number of midfielders Liverpool like.
Currently at Napoli and starring for Poland in the World Cup, Zielinski has had interest from England before. All the way back in May it was claimed Tottenham made a move for him. Further, West Ham have also shown an interest in Zielinski, who was said to be valued at around £42m by Napoli at one point.
Zielinski has been showered with plenty of praise over his career. Paulo Sousa, who was Poland manager, even told The Guardian that Zielinski had more quality than Phil Foden back in 2021.
Now 28, Zielinski is unlikely to get too many more opportunities to join a club of Liverpool’s size.
TBR’s View: Zielinski would fit the bill for Liverpool
Despite Poland being somewhat disappointing in this World Cup so far, there can be no doubt that Zielinski is a player of quality.
He brings plenty of energy and purpose to games and is currently a key part of a Napoli side that has been so impressive this season. With more than 75 caps for Poland as well, the experience is certainly there as well.
Liverpool desperately need to strengthen that middle of the park area. If they can’t land Bellingham, then Zielinski is a suitable alternative who improves things at Anfield right now.
