Report: Tottenham have just made the first move to sign 'exceptional' £42m midfielder
Tottenham Hotspur and transfers are going to mentioned quite a lot this summer and according to reports, they’ve made a move to sign Piotr Zielinski from Napoli.
We reported over the weekend how Spurs had an interest in Zielinski. Reports from Alfredo Pedulla had claimed Tottenham hold a big interest in the Polish midfielder, who has once again enjoyed a fine season in Naples.
And today, Area Napoli takes that one step further by claiming Tottenham have now made initial contact with Napoli about a deal for Zielinski. However, any hopes Spurs have of it being a straightforward deal seem wide of the mark in all reality.
Area Napoli reports how the Italian club have quoted Tottenham more than £40m for Zielinski. That price is said to have shocked Fabio Paratici and Spurs, who are hoping there can be some wiggle room.
Tottenham, as we know, are expected to back Antonio Conte heavily this summer. The Italian has led Spurs to the Champions League against the odds, and the board are keen to show they mean business. Zielinski is among a host of names already being linked with a move to North London.
Indeed, just earlier today we reported how Filip Kostic is also on the club’s radar.
TBR’s View: Zielinski Good For Tottenham But £42m A Big Price To Pay
The good news for Spurs fans is they know their club wants new faces. The bad news for Tottenham as a whole is that the rest of the market knows it, and will hold them to ransom at times.
Piotr Zielinski is a fine player and can fill a number of roles. However, over £40m is a big chunk of change for someone who might even be just a squad player.
Ultimately, Paratici will need to wheel and deal. But this one might hit the buffers before it really gets going.
