Report: West Ham want to sign 'exceptional' player tipped to be better than Foden; Spurs bid for him two months ago
West Ham United have made a move to try and sign Napoli midfielder, Piotr Zieliński, according to reports from Italy this weekend.
Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre cites a report from Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb that claims the Hammers are keen on signing the Polish midfielder. If they do, it’s a deal that could cost them around £42m if they want to convince Napoli to part ways.
Of course, Zielinski’s name is nothing new when it comes to links to English football. Just a couple of months ago it was reported that Tottenham had made a bid for the Polish star. Since then, as we know, Spurs have moved to sign other players and taken their spending to around the £100m mark.
Zielinski, who was at one point lauded as ‘exceptional’ and even tipped to be better than Phil Foden, has featured regularly for Napoli in recent seasons, becoming a key player.
West Ham, meanwhile, are desperate to add to their squad ahead of the new season after enjoying a fine campaign last term under David Moyes. The Hammers want to sign a new striker, but are also aware of the need to add quality in the rest of the XI as well.
TBR’s View: Zielinski Can Elevate West Ham
The 28-year-old is really at the peak of his powers right now and if a move to England is going to happen, then this summer would be good timing.
For Napoli, getting that £40m+ fee is probably only going to happen this summer. As for West Ham, they know they need to sign Zielinski now to get the best from him for a few seasons.
Certainly his age isn’t ideal for a player new to England. However, Zielinski is quality and in terms of improving the West Ham XI, he most certainly does that.
