Report: Klopp wants Liverpool to sign 'phenomenal' player but FSG have made their stance known
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wants to sign Darwin Nunez this summer but FSG won’t be paying over the odds for the Uruguayan striker.
Nunez is one of the hottest properties on the European market this summer. A whole host of clubs are interested in signing him, with Liverpool and Manchester United among the teams most likely to make their move when it comes to the Premier League.
However, while Liverpool are super keen on signing Nunez – especially with Sadio Mane set to leave – FSG won’t be held to ransom. According to The Times, Liverpool want to bring Nunez in, but it’s claimed they won’t pay whatever it takes to land him. The term used in The Times says Liverpool won’t pursue him ‘at any cost’.

Nunez is expected to command a fee in the region of £85m should anyone want to buy him this summer. But this latest report would hint that Liverpool might not be willing to go to that figure.
The Uruguayan striker enjoyed a stunning campaign last year, scoring 34 goals in just 41 games for Benfica.
TBR’s View: Liverpool Fans Will Want To See Nunez If Mane Is Sold
FSG face a bit of a tricky scenario here. They need to replace Mane if he does go to Bayern, but as we’ve seen over the last few years, the Reds board are careful in what they spend. They will splash out on the right player – see Van Dijk and Alisson – but they have to be sure.
Darwin Nunez is certainly a brilliant talent. He’s more or less guaranteed goals for Liverpool should he sign, so while that £80m+ figure is high, it could be worth it.
Liverpool fans, too, will want to see a big name arrive in place of Mane. And if that is Nunez, then that’s the ideal scenario.
