Liverpool now seem very likely to miss out on a target to Manchester United as talks reach an advanced stage.
Despite Liverpool finishing third in the Premier League last season under Jurgen Klopp – and securing a place in the UEFA Champions League – Erik ten Hag’s side, who earned a spot in the UEFA Europa League after winning the FA Cup, now seem to have stolen a march on their bitter rivals.
So, what is the situation involving Liverpool and Manchester United? Let’s take a look…
Liverpool target Leny Yoro now discussing salary with Manchester United
An update from Fabrizio Romano recently stated that Liverpool have spoken to the representatives of Lille No.15 Leny Yoro – with the Italian journalist previously adding that the Reds see the Frenchman as a dream signing as Michael Edwards aims to replace Joel Matip.
Now – however – the central defender sounds genuinely intrigued by a move to Manchester United, so much so that he is talking to the Red Devils about his wages, according to Nabil Djellit.
The respected French journalist also revealed that Manchester United have had a €62m (£52m) bid accepted by Lille for Yoro.
Djellit wrote on X (previously known as Twitter): “Lille accepted offer of 50 + 12 (€62m). Leny Yoro is in negotiations with Manchester United on salary conditions. Real (Madrid) still there but behind.”
Real Madrid have been planning to sign the 18-year-old in recent weeks after losing Nacho Fernandez to Saudi Arabia and David Alaba to a serious knee injury, although it sounds like the Spanish giants are now slipping behind Manchester United, as are Liverpool.
Arne Slot has an alternative
If Yoro does move to Old Trafford, Liverpool could step up interest in Crystal Palace No.6 Marc Guehi.
The aforementioned Romano recently claimed that Liverpool have been scouting the England international for a long time, and the Reds were surely impressed by his efforts at UEFA Euro 2024 this summer.

Therefore, it would not surprise us to see Liverpool move for Guehi as an alternative to Yoro.
