Liverpool reject late offer for player Jurgen Klopp branded as ‘absolutely exceptional’

Liverpool’s summer transfer window has burst into life in recent weeks after what turned out to be a quiet start.

After snapping up Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia, Liverpool quickly agreed a deal to sign Federico Chiesa from Juventus.

While the Italian international is set to arrive at Merseyside to put the finishing touches on the deal imminently, the Reds are working diligently behind the scenes to fine-tune their squad.

A busy end to the transfer window is on the cards at Anfield, with multiple players linked with exits.

However, if reports are to be believed, Tyler Morton looks like he could be staying put at Liverpool, at least for the time being.

According to The Telegraph, the Reds have turned down an official offer from Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen for Morton, who spent the previous season on loan at Championship club Hull City.

The report, however, doesn’t mention whether the reigning Bundesliga champions wanted the midfielder on loan or a permanent deal.

Liverpool value Morton at around £20m and it remains to be seen if potential suitors meet their asking price.

Liverpool face tricky decision involving Morton

Morton was hailed as an ‘absolutely exceptional’ talent by Jurgen Klopp, who gave him his Liverpool debut in 2021.

Since then, he has developed into a tidy player and could well be used as a backup option by Arne Slot this season.

With Stefan Bajcetic set to join RB Salzburg on loan, Liverpool are set to be another man down in midfield, having already lost Bobby Clark to the Austrian side.

The Reds are set to compete in four competitions this season and Slot has a crucial decision to make involving Morton in the coming days.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed successful loan spells at Blackburn Rovers and Hull City over the last two campaigns and looks ready to play regular football in the top flight this season.

Whether or not that is at Liverpool, however, remains to be seen.
