Giorgi Mamardashvili became the first Liverpool signing of the Arne Slot era yesterday as he agreed a deal to join the club at the start of the 2025-26 campaign.

The Georgian goalkeeper is set to spend the current campaign at Valencia, meaning the Reds are yet to sign a single player this summer.

However, that could be set to change in the coming days as Liverpool remain locked in talks to sign Federico Chiesa from Juventus.

And now, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Reds have edged closer to getting the deal over the line.

Romano says the final details of the deal between all parties are being sorted today after Liverpool put a four-year contract on the table for the Italy international.

The two clubs remain in direct talks to finalise a fee and Liverpool are believed to have nearly found an agreement on personal terms with Chiesa.

The 26-year-old’s contract runs out next summer and with the Reds moving quickly to get the deal done, it looks like it could be a matter of time before we see Chiesa in Liverpool colours.

How Chiesa would fit in at Liverpool

The Reds are blessed with attacking options in abundance in the form of Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota, so Chiesa isn’t likely to start games immediately.

However, he is capable of playing anywhere across the front three, making him a versatile option to have in the squad.

His ability to excel as a right winger is another factor that could appeal to Liverpool, with Salah the only player capable of playing in that position currently.

Chiesa is valued at around £15m by Juventus and with just three days left for the transfer window to slam shut, the Reds will look to swiftly complete a deal to avoid complications closer to deadline day.
