Liverpool are eyeing up ‘one of the most exciting young talents in Europe’

Liverpool’s search for a new centre-back has been going on for quite some time now as the Reds look to bolster their backline.

Fabrizio Romano claimed months ago that Liverpool were working on signing a new centre-back, but, as of yet, nothing has come to fruition.

Leny Yoro was strongly linked with a move to Liverpool, but he’s eventually joined Manchester United, while Goncalo Inacio is also said to be someone Liverpool are keen on.

Inacio has been linked to Liverpool, but according to David Lynch, speaking on Anfield Agenda, the Reds are also keen on Inacio’s Sporting teammate, Ousmane Diomande.

Liverpool keen on Ousmane Diomande

Lynch shared what he knows about the defender.

“A good example is Ousmane Diomande at Sporting. I know that’s a player they have looked at recently. That is interesting, is that the profile of centre-half they’re looking for if they’ve looked at Yoro as well?” Lynch said.

Ousmane Diomande has bags of potential

Described as ‘one of the most exciting young talents in Europe’, Diomande is a player who has bags of potential.

However, there is a question to be asked about whether or not he’d be a worthwhile signing for Liverpool.

The Reds need a left-sided centre-back to deputise for Virgil van Dijk, and Diomande is very much a right-sided player.

Liverpool already have Jarrell Quansah, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez capable of playing in that right centre-back slot, and Liverpool could do with a left-sided player who can act as Van Dijk’s understudy, and potential replacement.

Of course, finding the right type of player to play in such a position isn’t easy, and while Diomande may be a talent, he’s not necessarily the profile of defender the Reds need right now.

Liverpool may be best off looking elsewhere for a new centre-back.
