Not even Liverpool’s pulling power was enough to secure the services of a number 6 in the summer months, as Martin Zubimendi rejected the Merseyside club’s advances.

Arne Slot was desperate to add quality in the number 6 position but things didn’t work out and the Reds now find themselves short on options.

Liverpool have been helped by the fact that Ryan Gravenberch has come to life as he embarrassed Man United with his classy display in the holding role.

Gravenberch has even got Steve Nicol eating his words.

But, you feel as if relying on the Dutchman isn’t what Arne Slot wants to do with Wataru Endo the only other option in that position.

Interestingly, it now appears as if Liverpool already have a player on their radar ahead of January…

There is the potential for Liverpool to make a move for Zubimendi moving forward, David Ornstein has stated.

However, the snub has forced Slot to look at other alternatives.

This has led the Reds to taking a look at a Premier League midfielder who they’ve been able to see first-hand already.

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool and Manchester City are among the clubs now tracking Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton’s progress.

Although, it certainly won’t be an easy transfer to make happen if Steve Parish’s antics with Marc Guehi are anything to go by.

How good is Adam Wharton?

Adam Wharton joined Crystal Palace from Blackburn Rovers for around £22 million.

The young midfielder has impressed so much since making the move that he received a call-up to the England squad for the Euros this summer.

Declan Rice even called him a ‘top level’ player and said he has a ‘beautiful left foot’ on international duty.

Wharton loves to break up play in the middle of midfield and already helps the forwards press at Crystal Palace, which is perfect for Slot’s system.

Darren Bent has picked Wharton to emerge as the best young player in the Premier League, which fits the Liverpool transfer policy of buying promising players.
