£35m Liverpool player has totally embarrassed Manchester United’s transfer team

Liverpool beat Manchester United 3-0 on Sunday in what was a statement win.

However, this was a statement win in more ways than one.

Liverpool showed that they can outplay, outwork and out-think this United team in terms of players, tactics and motivation, but they also asserted their dominance in the transfer market in a lot of ways.

Indeed, while United’s £80m midfielder, Casemiro, struggled, Liverpool played with a midfield duo worth £70m between them in Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch.

Gravenberch dominated Casmeiro on the day, and that is all the more embarrassing given the context of Gravenberch being a former Ajax player.

Ryan Gravenberch embarrasses Manchester United’s recruitment team

Ryan Gravenberch was arguably Man of the Match on Sunday, and that has to be painful for Manchester United.

United’s transfer strategy over the past three years has largely been centred around signing former Ajax players.

There were no fewer than six former Ajax players in the Manchester United matchday squad on Sunday, but, somehow, the best ex-Ajax star on the pitch was playing for Liverpool.

Somehow, despite looking into signing almost every player to have step foot in the Johan Cruyff Arena in recent years, United were outclassed by a former Ajax player at the weekend.

Manchester United could use Ryan Gravenberch

It’s remarkable that United still have such a glaring hole in their midfield after spending so much money, and, ironically, they could use Ryan Gravenberch.

Last summer, Gravenberch was available for just £35m, and United needed a midfielder.

Erik ten Hag knows the player well from his time at Ajax, but he still ended up at Anfield rather than Old Trafford.

Manchester United have been constantly looking at Ajax and their exports in recent years, and yet, somehow, they’ve let their nearest rivals end up with a player like Gravenberch at a bargain fee, and on Sunday, he was a class above a number of his former Ajax teammates at Old Trafford.
